Objective:

To provide an opportunity and create a mechanism for redressal of certain grievances of students already enrolled in any institution and those seeking admission to such institutions.

Structure and Functioning

Any complaint of an aggrieved student regarding the institution shall be addressed to the Chairman of the Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC).

Every institution shall constitute the required number of Student Grievance Redressal Committees (SGRCs) to consider student grievances, with the following composition:

a) One Professor - Chairman b) Four Professors/Senior Faculty Members of the Institute as Members.

One representative from amongst the students to be nominated on the basis of academic merit/excellence in sports/performance in co-curricular activities – Special Invitee.

At least one member or chairperson shall be a woman, and at least one member or chairperson shall be from the SC/ST/OBC category.
The tenure of the chairperson and members shall be two years. The tenure of the special invitee shall be one year. The quorum for a meeting, including the chairperson but excluding the special invitee, shall be three. When considering complaints before it, the SGRC shall follow the principles of natural justice. The SGRC shall forward its report, if any, to the competent authority of the concerned institution and a copy thereof to the aggrieved student within 15 working days from the date of receipt of the complaint. Any student aggrieved by the decision of the Student Grievances Redressal Committee may appeal to the Ombudsman within 15 days from the date of receipt of such decision. Functions of the Ombudsman: The Ombudsman shall hear the appeal of the aggrieved student only after the student has exhausted all other remedies provided under these Regulations. Cases of irregularities in the conduct or evaluation process of an examination may be referred to the Ombudsman, but no appeal or application for re-evaluation or re-evaluation of answer sheets of an examination will be entertained by the Ombudsman unless a specific irregularity affecting the result or a specific instance of discrimination is shown. The Ombudsman may seek the assistance of any person as amicus curiae to hear complaints of alleged discrimination. The Ombudsman will make all efforts to resolve the complaints within a period of 30 days of receiving the appeal from the aggrieved student(s).
